Snowdon Drive, , Launched in 1972, Maplin Electronics originally began life as a mail order catalogue. With now over 65 stores they continue to specialise in a wide range of electronic components.
This is the place to go for all those odd bits and pieces of electrical equipment that you know you need but you are not quite sure what to ask for. The people on the info desk will identify it for you and get you the replacement part - they'll even tell you how to do it (fine soldering is not one of my strong points). They've saved me money and they can do the same for you!
I've always had a soft spot for Maplins. It's one of the few places where you feel the staff actually have an interest in what they sell and are able to offer genuine technical advice. And they're a lot more competitive on price than, say, PC World (eg they charge £2 for a USB cable, not £15).
